Stack Overflow is a question and answer site for professional and devotee programmers. It is a privately held site, the leader site of the Stack Exchange Network. It features questions and answers on a wide range of topics in computer programming. It was created to be a more open to earlier question and answer sites like Experts-Exchange. The name for the site was chosen by voting in April 2008 by readers of Coding Horror, Atwood's famous programming blog.

The site serves as a platform for users to ask and answer questions, and, through membership and active participation, to vote questions and answers up or down and edit questions and answers in a fashion like a wiki or Reddit. Users of Stack Overflow can earn reputation points and "badges"; for instance, an individual is granted 10 reputation points for accepting an "up" vote on a question or an answer to a question, and can get badges for their esteemed contributions, which represents a gamification of the traditional Q&A site. users open new privileges with an increase in reputation like the ability to vote, comment, and even edit other peoples posts. All users generated content is authorized under Creative Commons Attribute-ShareAlike license, version 2.5, 3.0, or 4.0 depending on the date the substance was contributed.

The site was created by Jeff Atwood and Joel Spolsky in 2008. On 31 July 2008, Jeff Atwood sent out invitations urging his subscribers to participate in the private beta of the new site, limiting its use to those willing to try out the new software. On 15 September 2008 it was declared that the public beta version was in meeting and that the overall population was currently ready to use it to look for help on programming related issues. The design of the Stack Overflow logo was chosen by a voting process.

As of January 2019 Stack Overflow has more than 10 million registered users, and it surpassed 16 million inquiries in mid 2018. Based on the type of tags assigned to questions, the main eight most discussed topics on the site are: JavaScript, Java, C#, PHP, Android, Python, jQuery, and HTML.

Stack Overflow likewise has a Jobs area to help designers in tracking down their next opportunity. For employers, Stack Overflow provides tools to brand their business, advertise their openings on the site, and source candidates from Stack Overflow's database of developers who are available to being contacted. In 2019, Stack Overflow named Prashanth Chandrasekar as its CEO and Teresa Dietrich as its chief product official.

Reddit is a social news accumulation, web content rating, and conversation site. Registered members submit content to the site for example, text posts, and pictures, which are then voted up or down by other members. Posts are organized by subject into user-created boards called "communities" or "subreddits", which cover an assortment of topics, for example, news, politics, science, movies, video games, music, books, sports, fitness, cooking, pets, and picture sharing. Submissions with more up-votes appear towards the highest point of their subreddit and, if they they get enough up-votes, eventually on the site's front page. Despite severe guidelines restricting harassment, Reddit's administrators spend impressive assets on moderating the site.

As of February 2021, Reddit ranks as the 18th-most-visited site on the planet and 7th most-visited site in the US, according to Alexa Internet. Around 42-49.3% of its user base comes from the United States, followed by the United Kingdom at 7.9-8.2% and Canada at 5.2-7.8%.

Reddit was established by University of Virginia flat mates Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian, and Aaron Swartz in 2005. Condé Nast Publications obtained the site in October 2006. In 2011, Reddit became  an independent subsidiary of Condé Nast's parent company, Advance Publications. In October 2014, Reddit raised $50 million in a funding round led by Sam Altman and including investors Marc Andreessen, Peter Thiel, Ron Conway, Snoop Dogg, and Jared Leto. Their investment valued the company at $500 million then. In July 2017, Reddit raised $200 million for a $1.8 billion valuation, with Advance Publications remaining the majority stakeholder. In February 2019, a $300 million funding round led by Tencent brought the company's valuation to $3 billion.

On June 5, 2020, Alexis Ohanian resigned as a member from the board because of the George Floyd protests and requested to be replaced "by a Black candidate".

On December 13, 2020, Reddit declared it had gained short-form video social platform Dubsmash, employing its whole team, with the expectation coordinating its video creation devices into Reddit.
